Distinguished events have encompassed showcasing renowned filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the initial world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend as well as Ian Cairns, 4x world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA combatant martial arts icon Fabio Leopoldo, and the half-century commemoration of West Side Story, which VENTURA FILM FEST comprised receiving the complete Academy Award winning ensemble of West Side Story, including Academy Award winner/Golden Globe winner George Chakiris and Golden Globe winner/Oscar-nominated Russ Tamblyn. The Ventura Film Festival's founder and executive director was invited to join, together with many of Hollywood's biggest stars, in the 50th Anniversary tribute of West Side Story and Hollywood's famous footprint/handprint ceremony recognizing Oscar winners Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, and legendary actor Golden Globe award winner Russ Tamblyn at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This event also doubled as the official BluRay release by Fox and MGM of West Side Story, which is widely considered by critics and fans to be the best musical of all time. This prestigious recognition and participation exemplifies the festival's substantial impact and honored place within the film industry.
